Job Shadow Narrative

On June 5th of 2015 I got the chance to shadow Greta Posadas. She’s a physician assistant thats works at a clinic located in North Sequoia Ave in Lindsay California. I chose to shadow her because in the future I’d love like to work in the medical field. Having the chance of being there made me think this might be me in the future.
When I arrived to her work Greta still wasn’t there so I got to stay with the receptionist. When I was patiently waiting, me and the receptionist started having a conversation about being in the medical field. I had the chance to ask her questions about her career and what is needed to become a receptionist. She then started telling me that she might go back to school after her daughter gets a little bit older. As we kept talking, Ms. Posadas had came in and the receptionist introduced me to her. Then the medical assistant also told me about what she does and requirements she had to go through to get where she is now. I had a pleasure to be by her side while her patient’s and her spoke. It was a good experience to see how her job is and what she does daily.
What I learned is that you have to be careful with patients. I also learned that you don’t necessarily need to go to a university to have a steady job that pays well. I also liked how organized workers were and how they treated patients with authority. They have a daily routine with helping the community. She first greets the patient and if theres parents she greets them as well. Then she continues examining the patient and discusses the issue . Finally after she gives her opinion about the tells how you might be able to solve your distrudance. She will often will direct you to take medication and you can purchase in any local pharmacy. Then again she could tell you that she’s going to send you somewhere to get tested to check what’s wrong.
Being there I realized that I didn’t see myself as a physician assistant because I believe I can represent a Registered Nurse, Pediatrician or even Psychiatric Technician. I want to work in the medical field and help others.
In conclusion,it was a great experience to job shadow her because I got to see what she does instead of just reading it on the internet.I also enjoyed it because I didn’t just see what one person does I also got to talk to a receptionist and a medical assistant and see what they do.
